Mrs. Yost's business classes learned what it takes to own and operate a food truck. Troy and Kelly Smith of Poor Daddy's Pizza took the time to answer questions and demonstrate the process of making wood fired pizzas. Students helped take pre-orders, organize them, and deliver to staff today. They were rewarded for their hard work with some pizza as well! It was a beautiful day to learn about business! #KnightsPride

Today the freshman health class did their food projects with Mrs. Jones. We have been studying the basics of nutrition, how to read a food label, eating disorders, and longterm risks associated with poor nutrition. Students were able to bring in foods and analyze calories for serving size with a food log. Some students chose to present on an eating disorder they researched. Everyone did a great job! This gave students a chance to try different foods, make nutrition relatable, and gave the opportunity to enjoy food with friends. #KnightsPride

Graduates and families: please read the flyer for information about pictures at graduation. #KnightsPride

Around spring break, Mrs. Goudy’s Spanish 1 classes learned about “cascarones.” A Latin American tradition where eggshells are filled with confetti and are cracked over someone’s head to represent good fortune. Students had a fun time learning about different cultures and their traditions. #KnightsPride

Students from Mr. Griffith's College Biology and Biology II classes enjoyed fantastic spring weather as they visited the WVU Core Arboretum on Monday, April 14. Arboretum Director, Dr. Zach Fowler, led the group on a two-hour walk along the trails of the Arboretum, stopping frequently to discuss the various plants and wildlife that can be found there at this time of the year.
Dr. Fowler is a 1997 graduate of Tyler Consolidated High School, and is a former student of Mr. Griffith. He enjoys hosting the group each spring during the time that ephemeral spring wildflowers are at their peak.
Wildflowers blooming in profusion at the time of the trip included Bluebells, Spring Beauties, Trout Lily, Dutchman's Breeches, and many others.
"It is always great to go to the Arboretum and visit with Dr. Zach," said Mr. Griffith. "He was one of the most knowledgeable students I had back when he was in my classes, and he has continued to immensely increase his knowledge of wildflowers, trees, birds, and many other aspects of Nature. WVU is very fortunate to have someone of his caliber as the director of the Arboretum."
The Core Arboretum is located right next to the WVU Coliseum. It is comprised of a 91-acre hillside forest overlooking the Monongalia River and has about three miles of trails. It was established in 1948 as a way to preserve native species in the Morgantown area. Entry is free and the Arboretum is open every day of the year. A small parking area is located along Rt. 19/7 (Monongahela Blvd), just past the Coliseum heading towards the downtown section.
