Sent on Behalf of

The Office of

Congresswoman Carol Miller

We are pleased to announce that students who may be interested in the military, ROTC, and nominations and appointments to our United States Service Academies (West Point, Annapolis, USAFA, USMMA, and the US Coast Guard Academy) will be able to learn what it takes to achieve their goal later in March at Rep. Miller’s Academy Night.

On Monday, March 14th, at George Washington High School, there will be an Academy Night for the 3rd District of West Virginia. United States Service Academy Liaison officers, ROTC representatives and DODMERB personnel will be present to brief on their programs. Information provided will include answers to the following: · The difference between attending an academy/ROTC and military recruiters · The value of attending a summer program at an Academy · Describing the ‘ideal’ candidate · Determining the difference between a nomination and an appointment

Especially now, with the changes to SAT/ACT standards, extracurricular push, and hybrid learning, it is important for those students/parents/educators to understand the process and the rigors of the application/admission.

Attached is a flier to share with your students and staff. We ask that you prominently post it and direct any questions to me at the email or phone number below. I do hope to see some of you in person on the 14th!

Also, below are links to summer programs available to students at the academies.  More information and due dates are below!

USCGA – RISING SENIORS – applications for Summer AIM program due April 15th!

While the USMMA does not have separate summer programs due to their unique trimester system tied into their Sea Year, it would benefit students to apply for the summer programs at USNA or USCGA to see if a sea service is the right path for them.

Entering high school? Do you like STEM? Ready to be challenged this summer? Apply now for summer STEM camp at a Service Academy where you will have the chance to interact with Cadets/Midshipman and faculty while working in world-class lab facilities on real-life STEM applications.
